Research alerts

A research alert is a standing request you make to PI in your own words: "every week, keep me posted on lightning network routing", "track daily what's new on BIP-324". From then on PI watches the Claim network for you and emails you what is new, ranked for your focus, on the schedule you chose. When nothing new matches, no email is sent.

It is the same idea as a Google Scholar alert, with two differences: you describe the subject in a sentence rather than a keyword, and what arrives is ranked by how it bears on your research profile, with a line under each item saying why.

Creating one

Say it to PI, in the chat, however you like:

  • "Alert me every week on new developments in lightning routing and channel liquidity."
  • "Track daily what's new on BIP-324 encrypted P2P transport."
  • /alert weekly, zero-knowledge proofs applied to Bitcoin

PI reads it back before saving: what it will watch, how often, and how many developments that watch would have found in the last 30 days. Nothing is saved until you say yes. If the preview finds nothing, that is worth knowing too; you can widen the subject or pick a different one.

You can have up to five alerts at a time.

What arrives

Each alert sends its own short email, titled with the alert's name and the number of new developments, for example "Lightning routing — 7 new developments". Each development shows the title, the first line of its summary, the field, the match percentage and the reason it is relevant to you, and links to the Claim.

  • Daily alerts look at the last day, weekly alerts at the last week.
  • The first email of a new alert covers the last 30 days, so a watch created in a quiet week still starts with the recent picture.
  • A development is never sent twice for the same alert.

Alerts arrive through the same switch as your daily briefing: Settings → App preferences → Email from PIPress. Off means no email from us at all; your alerts stay saved and resume when you switch it back on. Alerts need an email address on your account; a Nostr-only account can add one under Settings → Account.

Managing them

Ask PI: "what am I tracking?", "pause the BIP-324 alert", "delete the lightning routing alert". Or open My Research Profile → Research alerts (/profile?section=alerts), where every alert shows its schedule, when it last ran and how many developments it sent, with pause, resume and delete buttons.

Creating an alert is done in the chat only, because the preview and the yes are part of it.

What an alert is not

An alert does not search the web; it watches the Claim network PIPress maintains, which grows every day from papers, protocols, code and announcements. It does not read your library for you either: contradictions to your own papers are flagged by your feed and briefing already, without an alert. See Your library.
