Settings and billing

Open Settings from your name at the bottom of the left rail. It is one panel with these sections:

SectionWhat is there
AccountYour sign-in methods (add an email to a Nostr account, or a Nostr key to an email account) and your name and picture as they appear across PIPress.
App preferencesLight or dark appearance (dark is the default), text size, and the Email from PIPress switch: one switch for the daily briefing, the weekly pulse and your research alerts. Off silences all of them.
PrivacyThe Nostr relays your browser reads from and writes to.
Lightning walletThe wallets you connect for zaps.
BillingYour plan, wallet balance and top-ups.
UsageHow much of this week's allowance you have used, and on what.

The areas and topics you follow and how deep you want to go are no longer in Settings: they live in My Research Profile → Research preferences (/profile?section=preferences), next to your alerts, questions and library. They shape For You and everything PI emails you.

Plans and usage

Every account starts on the Free plan. Paid plans (Basic, Pro and Scale) give more monthly usage and access to more capable models. No workflow is locked to a plan; plans differ on how much you can do, not on what. The current prices, billed monthly or annually, are on the pricing page.

  • Your allowance is paced weekly: it resets every Monday, so a heavy day cannot spend the whole month.
  • Settings → Usage and the meter in the PI composer show one percentage, the most-used of your ceilings, with a warning at 75%.
  • Subscriptions are paid by card through Stripe. Change plan, cancel, or resume under Billing; a cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you paid for.

Pay as you go

Instead of, or as well as, a subscription, you can top up a wallet balance (minimum $10) and spend it as you go. With a subscription, the plan's weekly allowance is spent first and the wallet only pays for what goes beyond it. A wallet with no plan works on its own. You can save a card and switch on auto-reload so the balance refills itself when it runs low.

Lightning wallets and zaps

Under Billing → Lightning wallets you can connect a browser Lightning wallet (WebLN) or a Nostr Wallet Connect link. Connected wallets pay zaps on Claims with one click; without one, the zap dialog shows a QR code to scan with any Lightning wallet. Zapping needs a Nostr-signed account. Wallets are stored in your browser only.

You can also support the project directly on the support page: a Lightning address and a QR code.

Nostr relays and your profile

PIPress publishes Claims, blog posts and news to Nostr, an open network anyone can read without an account. If you signed in with a Nostr key, your reactions, comments and zaps are Nostr events signed in your browser, and your profile edits are published to your relays. The Nostr section lets you edit the relay list.

Signing out and switching accounts

The menu on your name has Sign out, Switch account and Add another account. Several accounts can stay signed in on one browser.
